Perched high on a hill with sweeping sea views of the Mangawhai Bar, this home underwent a complete exterior transformation to create a modern architectural look that matched its incredible location.

CHR Builders project managed the entire reclad and renovation from start to finish, delivering a high-end result that completely changed the appearance, comfort and functionality of the home.

The home’s original Shadowclad and Nuwall cladding had become tired and outdated. The homeowners wanted a fresh new look that would add character, improve performance and give the property a more premium high end feel.

To achieve this, the home had a full reclad using Archimax horizontal and vertical aluminium cladding. As a certified Archimax installer in the Northland region, CHR Builders was able to deliver a precise, high-quality finish that elevates the entire exterior of the home.

Architectural features that make the home stand out

The combination of sleek aluminium cladding, clean lines and contrasting textures creates a striking contemporary appearance that feels both modern and timeless.

A key feature of the renovation is the redesigned entranceway. New window shrouds and vertical fins were installed to create a bold architectural statement and give the home a strong sense of arrival.

Interior renovations and improved layout

The renovation extended beyond the exterior, with several interior upgrades designed to improve both layout and functionality.

Downstairs, a bedroom was reconfigured with a new layout and improved use of the space beneath the staircase.

Upstairs, the guest bedroom was extended to create a more spacious and comfortable retreat.

Structural alterations to include a lift

One of the more unique aspects of the project was the construction of a new lift shaft. Building a lift shaft is not something encountered on every renovation project, requiring careful planning and precise execution, but the finished result was seamlessly integrated into the home.

Alongside the reclad, the home was upgraded with new double glazed windows and additional insulation throughout both the reclad walls and roof space.

Managing a challenging site

Like many elevated coastal properties, this site came with its own logistical challenges. Access was extremely tight via a shared driveway, with very limited room for deliveries and on-site storage.

Careful coordination and project management were essential to ensure materials arrived in the correct order and exactly when needed to keep the build progressing smoothly.
